if chainfire was the first book you ever read of the series... would you think that richard was crazy? what would make you think that he was crazy?
valerio92
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 16:47
Yes if it was the first book I read I think I mistaked him for a crazy man 'cause he talk about a women that for the others didn't exist
singularity
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 17:11
how long would it take you to realize that he was actually protected by the sword of truth?
valerio92
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 17:24
few chapters because, I don't remember how many they are, in a chapter Goodkind talk about kahlan and the only explanation of why she was unknown by the others is that they didn't own the Sword Of truth
singularity

but would you actually believe this to be a reason so quickly? or would you think it an excuse richard makes to justify what he believes/remembers?
valerio92
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 17:59
Uhmmm.... great question.... I think if that is the firts book I read of SOT i choice your second suggestion
singularity
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 20:25
so you would think it an excuse for justifying his beliefs?
valerio92
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 23:17
yes. Without knowing what happened in the other book at the beginning of Chainfire you can think he is crazy.... Am I wrong?
singularity
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 23:23
no you are not wrong... some one actually did read chainfire first and thought like all the characters that richard was totally out of his mind.
valerio92
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 23:45
But how can you start reading a series from the ending trilogy????
singularity
00venerdì 3 ottobre 2008 23:58
because the person did not know it was a series...

for example i started reading pillars of creation... that's why my views on richard are a bit different than those that started from the actual firtst book.
valerio92
00sabato 4 ottobre 2008 15:57
Yes but Pillars of creation is a book that is in the midlle of the series so it is a bit different
singularity
00sabato 4 ottobre 2008 16:15
but when the first triloy book came out... you and me knew it was part of three and part of the ending saga... a person at the book store woudn't know this if he has never heard of terry and his series
valerio92
00sabato 4 ottobre 2008 23:28
Yes but if you look at the beginning of the book there is always a page in which is written the books that cames before so also if he hasn't ever heard of Terry and Sot series he can know that Chainfire is one of the last novels
singularity
00domenica 5 ottobre 2008 17:19
not all will think of doing that... when i picked up PoC (pillars of creation) i found the book very interesting and took it home... only when i was well into the book did i look and see that it had several book before this one... i still finished reading the book and then went looking for WFR
valerio92
00domenica 5 ottobre 2008 23:24
Uhmmm.... personally I do always as I said with the new books that attract me from the shelves so I thought it's the same for all the people
singularity
00lunedì 6 ottobre 2008 14:50
obviously yout thought wrong... on many occasions i've found myself reading a very interesting book just to find out it is from a series, and it's not the first book...

it's like... i read first, ask questions later
valerio92
00lunedì 6 ottobre 2008 18:33
uhmmm great method I'll try it and see if it's better for me
singularity
00lunedì 6 ottobre 2008 19:56
i read for enjoyment... so when i pick up a book i look through it... if i find it interesting i read it... if it is a book within a series, and i've enjoyed this particular book, then i go look for the first book so i can read the entire series...
valerio92
00lunedì 6 ottobre 2008 21:48
OK so the nex time I'll go to the bookshop I'll use this method
singularity
00lunedì 6 ottobre 2008 22:18
just because it works for me, it doesn't mean it has to work for you...
valerio92
00martedì 7 ottobre 2008 19:42
yes but if I don't try I'll never know if it works also for me
singularity
00martedì 7 ottobre 2008 21:46
well, if you want to try it go ahead... i cannot stop you.
valerio92
00mercoledì 8 ottobre 2008 19:56
Ok but coming back to IT I think that even a person starts reading the series from chainfire after some chapters Kahlan is described so he can know that Richard isn't crazy
singularity
00mercoledì 8 ottobre 2008 20:14
i think kahlan comes into the picture in the middle of after ... so there is plenty of time to establish that richard is crazy... once you become convinced of this you start to doubt that the woman really is the kahlan of his memory
valerio92
00giovedì 9 ottobre 2008 21:47
uhmmm perhaps you are right but I'm not convinced at all cause of course I cannot think about it like you said because I started reading the series from the beginning so for me Richard is the good guy and Kahlan is his sweet wife
